MLM Advertising

The Multi-level marketing industry has certainly changed from the ‘good old days’ of Amway and Herbalife.  Once upon a time, a person could open a distributorship for one of these companies, start promoting their products by word of mouth, and make some extra cash for the family.  Back in the 1950’s, for example, when most women didn’t work, this model made perfect sense.  Even with no MLM advertising, like people use today, the average housewife could invite all of her friends over (who also didn’t work), have a little ‘cracker and cheese’ party and make some sales.  For those who really were ambitious, they could get interested friends and teach them to do the same and make even more money – it was a win-win!

But the game has changed, my friends.  This is not the 1950’s any longer; most women work more hours than their husbands (when you include the family work).  Most people are not impressed by that shiny new Tupperware bowl or that great new soap or candle you show them.  In fact, MLM advertising, is likely the only way you can compete in a world where you next door neighbor, on average, sees and hears over 150 offers a day for competing products and services.  And, the internet hasn’t helped either.  Today, competing offers are just the push of a few buttons away.  And, believe me when I tell you, most of your friends have neither the time or the desire to spend their Tuesday night in your living room, watching your 30 minute DVD.

If you’ve spent any significant amount of time going through your company’s training and attending live events, you know that most companies do not talk about MLM advertising.  In fact, they bend over backwards to convince you that none of their top leaders advertise – that this is a ‘sharing’ business, not a selling business.  But, I’m here to tell you that all of that is BS!  MLM advertising, as it relates to growing you MLM business is the ONLY chance you have at succeeding in today’s environment.  And, if you don’t come to the realization that MLM is a selling business, TODAY, you’re destined to continue to fail in your business.

What kind of MLM advertising is most likely to produce results in your business?  Traditional forms of advertising, ie, newspapers, radio, television, etc. are simply too expensive for the average distributor.  The internet is the only viable option out there that offers anything affordable.  But, how do you advertise on the internet, and more importantly, WHAT do you advertise?  Well, if you MLM company is like most companies these days, they do not pay a high enough commission on product sales to justify any MLM advertising for products, even on the internet.  You will not survive a pay-per-click campaign paying Google $2.00 a click to make $5.00 on a $65 box of product sold to every hundredth person.  That’s ‘fuzzy math’.  So you’re stuck having to advertise your ‘opportunity’ and focus solely on recruiting.  This is a dead end, and I can prove it.  You’re wasting your time here.  However, there is hope.

There are a few good companies out there that have structured their training and their comp plans to make it worth your time– they are doing it the RIGHT way, and they are at the forefront of what I believe is a huge industry shift that’s underway.  I, for one, am avoiding traditional MLM Advertising and instead am placing my focus on promoting the products and services of one of these companies.
